Easter Monday is traditionally the staging date for the Jamaica World Clash „Death Before Dishonor“. For the first time, a German Sound entered the competition, Sentinel Sound from Stuttgart. Already in the introduction round, the crew consisting of Dj Meska, Shotta Paul, Elmar and Nadia, proved to the more than 6000 patriots, that the Swabians know their trade of selecting records very well. Mc Shotta Paul showed intimate knowledge of Jamaican lifestyle and talked himself into the hearts of the audience. In the second round the first Sound was to be eliminated and the relatively young sound „Bredda Hype“ from Jamaica had to leave the battlefield. Sentinel again won the round presenting a top-class juggling by DJ Meska and brought a lady onstage, who claimed to be the mother of rival Pink Panther. The lady stated that Panter had been following funny hobbies since he was a child, the crowd cheared in laughter. The third round went well deep into the magic box of soundclash-tricks and Shotta Paul argued smartly, so that the crowd again decided Sentinel to be the winner. The Japanese contestants Mighty Crown saw themselves disempowered and got voted out of the competition. The fourth round again was a clear victory for Sentinel and Shotta Paul asked the crowd wether Sentinel had won the clash or not. When the majority of the hands went up into the air, he stated: „Put that pon Youtube!“
However, in the finals, in which the two remaining crews take turns in playing ten songs each, the crowd decided the last World Clash Trophy, the promoter wants to continue with a new format the next year, should stay in the motherland of reggae music, Jamaica. Shotta Paul tried, but could not put anything against it and Black Kat went home with the trophy. The Jamaican Observer commented: „Panther, as only he knows how to do, stole the title from Sentinel's hands.“
Sentinel Sound is the only Sound from Germany to ever win such a World Clash Event, 2005 in New York and to enter, next to various other Cup-Clashes, two next World Clashes in New York, three in London and this one in Jamaica. The Crew from Stuttgart has again built a foundation for international Reggae Music and represented impressively at the world's biggest Soundclash.
Sentinel sets new standarts in various aspects: Djane Nadia is the first and only woman to ever compete on these stages in a business controlled by men. 2010 is the year of the 11th Anniversary of the Crew and they're the only german Sound to tour Japan twice. Furthermore, Sentinel is at home in Europe's best clubs and they are the host of Europe's largest regular Reggae Party, Kingston Hot, taking place monthly at Stuttgart's Club Rocker 33. And Reggae-fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland tunes in to their free weekly radio podcast on kingstonhot.de. Sentinel is the international figurehead for reggae music from Europe and they bring the original vibes on a world level to each party.
